THE Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) has officially endorsed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) initiative with the objective of empowering indigenous people through the provision of more business opportunities across the province.
This announcement was made by Malaita Province Premier Elijah Asilaua yesterday at the Revised 2024/2025 Budget Meeting in the Provincial Assembly Chamber.
Premier Asilaua highlighted that the MSME programme will be launched soon, with plans to foster partnerships and collaboration between the provincial government, the national government, development partners and financial institutions.
The initiative is focused on promoting the growth of MSMEs that utilise local natural resources, while contributing to education and development.
“To empower our indigenous people and engage them in business opportunities, the executive government has already endorsed the MSME technical working committee.
“This will pave the way for partnerships and collaboration with key stakeholders, including the national government, development partners, and financial institutions,” Premier Asilaua said.
Premier Asilaua emphasised the importance of this initiative for men, women, youth and marginalised communities, especially those with special needs to provide them with new skills and knowledge, particularly in the healthcare sector.
