THE Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) has praised the Malaita I Tolo Guardianship Trust (MITIGT) for its ongoing support towards educational initiatives across the province.
MITIGT’s assistance to the Malaita Youth Council (YC) has been crucial in the design of a new youth hub aimed at enhancing digital learning opportunities for students and other youth in Auki.
MITIGT also supported schools across Malaita by providing new computers and setting up school laboratories, which are helping to expand access to technology and internet services for students.
During the MITIGT Tok Stori programme last week, Malaita Provincial Secretary Erick George expressed his gratitude to MITIGT for its substantial contributions towards education in the province, particularly the youth hub project.
Mr George highlighted that the hub will enhance digital learning opportunities for both students and young people across Malaita and help bridge the digital divide in the region.
MITIGT Project Coordinator William Abuinao explained that the mission of MITIGT is to operationalise the Mala-I-Tolo Declaration and the concept of a ‘restorative economy’ in the highlands of Malaita.
A key aspect of MITIGT’s work is providing educational support to high school students through the establishment of Tolo learning hubs, which combine Indigenous values with modern technological tools.
Mr Abuinao emphasised that this initiative aims to cultivate a capable workforce that is grounded in culture, whilst preparing young people to thrive in the emerging restorative economy of Solomon Islands.
MITIGT also plans to continue its engagement with schools and high school students, the Malaita Youth Council, the provincial government and community leaders to ensure the ongoing success of these efforts.
The outcomes of this collaboration are expected to shape the future of education in Malaita, promoting indigenous values that have long been at the heart of local society.
Key representatives from the Malaita Provincial Government attended a recent meeting to discuss the initiative, including Provincial Secretary Erick George, school principals, members of the Malaita Youth Division and local youth from around Auki.
