MEMBERS of Parliament on Tuesday paid respect to Temotu Pele MP, who died Monday night in Honiara after a long illness.
They gave obituary speeches in parliament.
Mr Magga was from Tuwo village in the Reef Islands and was born on the 11th of November 1953.
He obtained a Cambridge School Certificate from Selwyn College from 1970 to 1974 and a Diploma in Diplomacy from University of PNG from 1989 to 1990.
Prior to becoming elected to Parliament, late Magga was aCivil Servant serving as Chief of Protocols, Director of Asian Section, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs before obtaining his career in politics.
He was elected to the National Parliament of Solomon Islands for the Temotu Pele Constituency on 5th April 2006.
He was re-elected on 4th August 2010 until his passing away.
During his term as a Member of Parliament, late Magga served various Ministerial portfolios including –
Minister of Health and Medical Services from 5th May 2009 to 9th June 2009
Minister for Lands, Housing and Survey from 21 December to 5th May 2009
Minister of Law and Justice from November 12 2007 to December 21 2007
Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs from 12 November to 21 December 2007
Late Maggaalso served as Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee from 10th May 2006 to 12 November 2007.
He was commended and is remembered by his colleague Members for his dedication and commitment to his constituents and the country during his time as a Member of Parliament.
