MEMBERS of Parliament (MP) who have an agreement with the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) have been urged to pay up tuition for students funded by the constituency before the deal expires.
SINU Finance Director Walter Maesugea highlighted this on Monday when the North Guadalcanal Constituency MP Samson Maneka paid outstanding tuition for students from his constituency.
About $170,000 from the constituency education grant was paid to settle the first semester fee for about 38 North Guadalcanal students studying at SINU this year.
Mr Maesugea explained that SINU have a fee assistance agreement with each 50 MPs in the country for students studying at SINU.
And because of that, he said its important for these MPs to settle their dues.
Its important for other MPs in the country to come forward and pay up their contributions.
The finance director thanked some of the MPs who have already settled their fee obligation with SINU.
“I would like to thank other MPs who have already settled their school fee assistance agreement with SINU.
“This is what we want to ensure our children can be able to get quality education and help our country in the future,” Mr Maesugea said.
