Seventeen projects recipients on Tikopia Island in Temotu Province have been told to use their project wisely in their community to generate income for community and their families.
Deputy Director of the Ministry of Rural Development Matilda Watesao highlighted this when she addressed people of Tikopia last Tuesday.
About 17 individual projects for Tikopia have been delivered by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Temotu VATUD constituency herself during a tour to Tikopia last week.
The projects included canteens and outboard motors (OBM) for individual family on Tikopia islands which was funded by the Ministry of Rural Development through office of Temotu VATUD constituency office in Honiara.
Ms Watesao told project recipients that the projects given to the people will be monitored by the Ministry therefore recipients must make sure they use the project wisely.
“I would like to remind you recipients of the project here in Tikopia to please use this project wisely to generate income for your family.
“This projects are not to benefit your family and community but to assists your family and improve standard of living in your community,” Ms Watesao said.
She however appealed to the people who wish to apply for projects to firstly identify projects before applying for projects that will benefit their family and community.
“There are some people who have been applying for projects which are not suitable for the community which results in many projects ending up as failure and money wasted. Therefore I’m reminding people here to make sure to apply for projects that are useful in the community and for yourself,” the MRD deputy director said.
MP for Temotu VATUD constituency Freda Tuki Soriacomua also encouraged her people to apply for projects that would benefit the community and family.
“I wish to remind every people here to take this advice seriously because this very important for our community and the projects,” she said.
