IN an exhilarating, splendid and hypnotic first ever Miss Western Province Queen Show staged at the Pacific Crown Hotel in Honiara last Thursday night, Miss North New Georgia Salote Dentana was crowned by Miss Solomon Islands Tiare Haro as Miss Western Province.
A total of nine candidates contested for the title that night in front of a huge crowd and the pageant’s panel of judges.
Ms Dentana topped three categories of the total of five categories of the pageant. These were the Western Wear Category, Talent Category and also the Question and also the Answer Category which she won alongside Miss Shortlands. The Sarong Category and Contemporary Wear Category were both won by Miss Kolombangara.
In her victory speech, Ms Dentana acknowledged her team for trusting her ability to represent North New Georgia in the Miss Western Province Queen Show.
“I want to thank my team for trusting me to represent North New Georgia in this Western Province queen show.
“I also acknowledge communities in North New Georgia and everyone who has come and participated. You have done a very good job by coming and celebrating our day – Western Province Day.
“I want to give back the glory and honour to our Heavenly Father for this achievement,” she said.
Ms Dentana acknowledged other contestants for representing their islands in the Western Province at the show with their natural beauty and talents.
“We the contestants who came to this Queen Show to represent our islands with our natural beauty and talents is something we should appreciate.”
Ms Dentana underscored that women must come out, stand out and be involved in such shows to inspire the younger generation by advocating on important issues.
She also highlighted that joining such a platform is not about physical beauty but about bringing out the inner beauty of women.
Ms Dentana said such shows inspire young women to become responsible citizens of their respective provinces.
Ms Dentana is 21 years old and her father is the Permanent Secretary of Finance & Treasury (MoFT) McKinnie Dentana.
She currently studies at the University of Papua New Guinea’s (UPNG’s) School of Medicine and Health Science undertaking a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery.

1. Sarong – Miss Kolombangara
2. Question and answer – tie between miss North New Georgia and Miss Shortland
3. Western Wear – Miss North New Georgia
4. Talent – Miss North New Georgia
5. Contemporary Wear – Miss Kolombangara
Overall winners:
Miss Western Province – Miss North New Georgia (Salote Dentana)
First runner up – Miss Kolombangara
Second runner up – Miss Shortland Islands
Third runner up – Miss Roviana
