The Chair of the Melanesian Spearhead Group and Spokesperson of the FLNKS Political Bureau, Mr Victor Tutugoro has condemned the assassination of Martinus Yohamewho who is responsible for the West Papua Independence Movement in Sorong.
Mr Tutugoro made the statement after regional media announced the discovery of Martinus YOHAME’s body in the region of Sorong, an east-bound city of West Papua, “floating in a bag, in the ocean, arms and legs bound and body riddled with bullet wounds”.
Martinus Yohamewas responsible for the West Papuan independence movement in Sorong, who for decades campaigned for the decolonization of West Papua and its ascension to sovereignty. Mr Yohame was very vocal recently and strongly opposed the arrival of the Indonesian President to the region.
Mr Tutugoro said he is saddened to hear of this tragedy when only recently the Special Leader’s Summit of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in July this year agreed to find a sustainable solution for all and suggested a way for forward for West Papua to form a single coalition to present a united front in becoming a member of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
He also added that in an attempt to finding a solution and under the impulse of the Honorable Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Hon. Joe Natuman, MP a round table has been scheduled for the different factions of the independence movement to achieve this way forward.
The Chair of the MSG said amidst the tragic news of the killing of Yohame he is assuring fellow brothers and sisters of Melanesia that he brings the support of the Melanesian Spearhead Group to the Melanesian people of West Papua and prays for a sustainable solution for all.
