THE Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) has agreed to engage the sub-regional organisation into some form of money generating activities.
This was revealed by the Interim Managing Director Jean Pierre Nirua during a press conference with the media last week.
This responsible unit that deals with income generation for the sub-regional group is known as Melanesian Solution, a commercial arm of MSG, which Jean Pierre Nirua is the Managing Director acting.
Mr Nirua stated that Melanesian Solution was registered in Vanuatu as a business with commercial functions.
Nirua, a Vanuatu national told the press conference that financial challenges to shoulder all planned activities was agreed upon in the senior official meeting of MSG which has led them to explore business avenues.
“This will help the organisation to raise funds to facilitate all their commitments in trade, shipping, fisheries, and other economic developments within the MSG’s priority areas.”
Nirua also stated that a Board has been established to manage the operations of Melanesian Solutions, which they will start focus on businesses confined in Vanuatu, since this commercial arm of MSG is still in its embryo stages.
He added once the commercial activities by Melanesian Solution continues to grow it will help the member countries with supply of quality products, as well as reducing dependence on Asian imports.
Furthermore, he said negotiations by MSG admin with airlines of member countries will certainly gave advantage for them to facilitate commercial activities between Melanesian countries.
He concluded by stating that they are looking at enhancing shipping services because this is the biggest challenge on the economic aspect of their planned activities to be implement.
