The Director General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat, Mr Peter Forau has congratulated the Governments of Fiji and Solomon Islands for amicably agreeing to lift the suspension of flights between both countries.
Mr Forau said, ‘both countries have met and negotiated the matter on several occasions over the past year and it is pleasing to observe that in the true spirit of Melanesian dialogue and consensus, they have resolved the matter. The breakthrough in talks early in the New Year between Ministers and Officials is quite timely as the traveling public return to work and students return to schools to begin the 2015 calendar year.’
He added that the re-commencement of the flights between Nadi and Honiara also signals a good start for the region as our members continue to work towards deeper economic integration and enhance our keen desire for connectivity.
“The lifting of the suspension will now allow both Solomon Airlines and Fiji airways to commence serving the route between Honiara and Nadi, with immediate effect and paves the way for the MSG as a group to move ahead with its aspirations to increase its connectivity between member countries hence the reason we at the Secretariat welcome the commitment by both countries to resolve their issues,” said Mr Forau.
