THE Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Leaders Summit is scheduled to take place in Honiara on 14th July.
The summit was originally scheduled for Port Vila in Vanuatu at the start of May, but moved to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, towards end of June.
However, it was postponed again because the leaders could not find time to meet during the Asia Caribbean Pacific (ACP) meeting in Port Moresby.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs permanent secretary, Joseph Ma’ahanua said the MSG Leaders’ Summit will now be held back to back with the Pacific Islands Development Forum.
Mr Ma’ahanua said it was anticipated that during the PIDF, most of the MSG leaders will be around in Honiara, so it’s an opportunity to stage the summit.
Furthermore, he said Fiji will host the Special Official Meeting and Foreign Ministers Meeting from 14-16 June.
Mr Ma’ahanua said the SOM is where they will discuss technical issues and its report will be forwarded to the Foreign Ministers to discuss.
The Solomon Star understands the a peaceful demonstration is planned during the MSG Leaders Summit next month by West Papuan supporters to denounce the human rights treatment by Indonesia against West Papuans.
A musical concert will also be staged to support the fight of West Papua’s United Liberation Movement for freedom from the rule of Indonesia.
