The Makira-Ulawa Provincial Government has been encouraged to produce a development plan that can capture its development aspirations.
Acting Prime Minister (PM) and Minister for Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification, Bradley Tovosia made the call when a Makira-Ulawa Provincial Government delegation led by Premier Stanley Siapu paid a courtesy call on him at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) on Tuesday.
The delegation used the opportunity to bring to the attention of the national government the province’s development aspirations
Acting PM Tovosia encouraged Premier Siapu and his Executive to express the issues freely without reservation.
He urged the Makira-Ulawa Provincial Government “to draw a plan capturing development aspirations.”
The delegation is in Honiara on an eight-day mission to engage in formal dialogue with various government stakeholders and ministries.
The delegation also the opportunity to be briefed by the Constitutional Reform Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet on the issue of State Government.
They also met with the Policy and Implementation Unit (PIMEU) of OPMC where governance issues were raised, including the much-needed physical infrastructure and resources support from the national government and the process of aligning provincial policies with that of the national government to push forward development.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele is in the Kingdom of Tonga for the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting allowing his deputy in the acting position.
