A MAN who was charged with the murder of another man at Lau Valley, East Honiara, last December is now armed with a lawyer.
Daniel Kwalai of Public Solicitor’s Office has been allocated to represent the defendant Nelson Magi.
This was confirmed when the matter was brought to the Honiara Magistrate Court last week.
However, the court was informed that Mr Kwalai was then in Gizo, Western Province, for the High Court Circuit.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Ricky Iomea, who mentioned this matter, therefore adjourned the matter to February 21.
The adjournment was made to give time for Mr Kwalai to return from Gizo and speak with his client.
Magi was charged in relation to an allegation that occurred between 1am and 2am on 17 December 2023 at Lau Valley.
It was alleged Magi assaulted the deceased by kicking him below his abdomen and later taking a piece of timber from a church area and beat the deceased’s back and ribs with it.
The accused had an argument with his wife earlier and then attacked the deceased’s nephew.
The deceased was already asleep but his niece called him to help her elder brother who was attacked by the accused.
The deceased got up from his sleep and climbed up a hill to reach the main road where the commotion was happening.
He was then attacked by the accused when he tried to assist his nephew.
Following the attack, the deceased was taken to the National Referral Hospital but died.
