POLICE in Auki have arrested and charged a 24 year-old male suspect following a murder incident at North Malaita over the weekend.
Police alleged the incident occurred on Saturday evening right till Sunday morning, where a man in his 40’s was stabbed and later died at a nearby clinic.
The death of the man then led to burning down of 30 dwelling houses, both permanent and semi buildings at Foufanea village, Suava Bay area.
The accused who is in custody at Auki police station had surrendered himself to police, after he escaped for his safety from his attackers and is now within police custody.
Police have been on the scene mediating the matter which had calmed the situation and return people to normalcy, as it carried out its investigation.
Police urge members of both parties to assist police investigation to allow police carry out its task efficiently.
