Real Kakamora striker Nicholas Muri believes there is something more ‘satisfying’ than scoring a goal on a football pitch-providing one.
The former Hekari United and Koloale FC striker revealed he had always felt more satisfaction having assisted a strike for one of his team-mates than he has when finding the back of the net himself.
After three matches, Real Kakamora’s once prolific captain, Muri was yet to find the back of the net.
But Muri said he was happy to help his other teammates score as it’s all part of their game plan.
“It does not matter if I score or not and it does not affect my performances going into every game.
“I’m happy to provide assists for my teammates because that is what I’m there for, it’s part of how we want to play.
“Defenders from teams that we face will be focusing on me as the main striker and that way I drag them away which will leave more room for my other teammates to have a chance on goal.
“So I’m happy to provide assists but if I have a scoring opportunity I will go for it,” Muri said after leading his side to a 2-0 victory over Isabel Frigates on Monday.
Real Kakamora came into the 2017 Solomon Cup as tournament favourites and started off their campaign with a 8-0 thrashing of Renbel Chiefs before a 3-2 defeat to Western Turtles threatened their hopes of progressing to the semis.
They did manage to get their campaign back on track with a nervy 2-0 victory over Isabel Frigates on Monday.
Muri refused to blame over-confidence as the reason for Real Kakamora’s struggled against Western Turtles and Isabel Frigates.
Their match against the Frigates was locked nil all heading into stoppage time after 90 minutes with a draw that would have been a blow to their hopes of progressing.
Real Kakamora were recused thanks to the heroics of Joe Hiri who scored twice in the four minutes of stoppage time.
“Every team in this tournament came with confidence and so did we but I would not say we were over-confident.
“We go into every game knowing we will face a tough opponent and we try our best to get the result we want,” Muri said.
Depending on what happens on Wednesday when group B matches resume, the real decider to determine which teams progress from this group will be on Friday when Real Kakamora takes on Malaita Eagles in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Western Turtles currently leads group B with seven points and could secure their spot in the semis with a win against Isabel Frigates in their last pool match on Wednesday.
