COASTAL freighter, MV Kosco was reported held up at Ringi in the Western Province on Monday night by relatives of a man who was claimed to have fallen over board and is yet to be found.
However, latest reports from Gizo last night say the vessel was released late on Tuesday and allowed to continue to the provincial capital.
According to reports reaching this paper, the vessel was held up as it berth at Ringi wharf after angry relatives of a man from Kwaio was said to have fallen over board.
Eye-witness accounts said the unidentified man boarded the vessel at Noro and was on his way to Ringi when he fell overboard just before the vessel entered Ringi harbour.
Reports said the man was drunk whilst sighted on board the vessel, whilst other reports suggested that the man was sitting carelessly which may have caused him to fall overboard.
This, however, have yet to be established as relatives have demanded that the ship’s crew organise a search team to try and recover the missing man.
A search party was dispatched on Tuesday to try and recover the body of the missing man, however were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, when contacted on Tuesday, the Police Media Unit said that they have yet to receive reports of the matter, whilst attempts to get comments from both Ringi and Gizo Police were unsuccessful.
