NAFINUA clinic in east Kwara’ae, Malaita province has recorded 7 measles cases so far.
This was through a report submitted to Kilu’ufi hospital last week.
Nafinua clinic is the main center that looks after the eastern region to monitor the recent measles outbreak.
According to measles team at Kilu’ufi hospital, they divided Malaita into four regions and Nafinua is one of them.
And it was revealed the number of cases is on the rise.
This was also confirmed by a registered nurse aid at Kilu’ufi hospital, Nixon Olofisau.
He said that according to the data collected from the regions, the total number was 369 cases but that was in August,
“But 80 more cases have found so it is likely to reach more than 400.”
However no deaths have been reported from those regions except Kilu’ufi that recorded three measles related deaths.
As part of addressing the situation more measles teams have sent out around the province to conduct vaccination.
Vaccination is the only way to contain the outbreak, said Mr Olofisau.
