A draw to find out the order of names of all intending candidates that will appear in the voting ballot paper was staged yesterday for Guadalcanal Province and Honiara City Council Constituencies.
This came after the close of nominations.
The draw was conducted at the National Museum and was witnessed by election officials.
The draw was to put the names of all intending candidates in the order of how they will appear on the ballot paper.
The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) in a brief statement said draw is part of the election process of how the names will appear in the ballot paper.
“The ballot draw is an important part of the process and ensures fairness to all candidates”
“The names of the nominated candidates in each constituency are drawn randomly from a box to determine the order in which they will appear on the ballot paper.”
Its understood similar draws are expected to happen for other constituencies.
Meanwhile it was revealed that more than 250 intending are expected to contest in the upcoming national general election.
