The Solomon Islands national netball squad experienced their first defeat in their second friendly match against Honiara’s Sunrise Netball team, Wednesday at the Multipurpose Hall netball court.
Sunrise finished off with a close score margin of 57-51 after four quarters of netball action.
The squad had it under control for the two quarters taking a steady lead of 12-9 and 17-16 respectively.
The momentum was suddenly on Sunrise’s side in the final two quarters which saw them finishing off with a similar score of 16-11 for both quarters.
The defeat had some critics to question why a national squad could just be defeated by an ordinary club.
Sunrise is not just an ordinary club, they are one of the best netball clubs in the country having won many netball leagues and championships in the past years, and also they are comprised of some of the country’s renowned veteran netball players.
The defeat is a signal to the squad to work out their weaknesses and get fully prepared before the Pacific Games kicks off in July, netball supporter said last night.
The squad managed to win their first friendly against Andel women’s netball team and they are hoping to win more in other friendly matches to come.
The squad is currently training under the watchful eyes of a PNG coach who will lead the team to the Pacific Games.
