The Ministry of Police, National Security, and Correctional Services (MPNSCS) has convened a National Security Strategy (NSS) validation workshop on Monday, bringing together key stakeholders from across the country to review and provide final input on the updated NSS.
The workshop marks a crucial step in ensuring that the NSS reflects the shared security priorities of the Solomon Islands, addressing both emerging and ongoing challenges. Participants include representatives from government agencies, provincial authorities, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
In her opening remarks, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police, National Security, and Correctional Services, Ms. Karen Galokale, emphasized the importance of collaboration and inclusivity in developing a robust security framework.
“The National Security Strategy is not just a document for the government but a roadmap for the entire nation. It reflects our collective responsibility to safeguard the peace, security, and sovereignty of the Solomon Islands. This workshop provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to contribute to its finalization,”said the Permanent Secretary.
She further highlighted that the updated NSS integrates both traditional and non-traditional security threats, ensuring a comprehensive approach to protecting the nation.
“In today’s rapidly changing security landscape, we must remain vigilant to emerging threats, including climate change, cyber security, and transnational crime. The National Security Strategy will help us proactively address these challenges while preserving our cultural and societal values,” the Permanent Secretary added.
The NSS validation workshop will also focus on integrating feedback from provincial consultations held earlier this year, ensuring that local perspectives and concerns are reflected in the final strategy. This final phase in the development process will culminate in the official launch of the updated NSS later this year.
The Permanent Secretary expressed confidence in the outcomes of the workshop, stating, “I am confident that with the input gathered here today, we will finalize a strategy that is not only resilient but adaptive to the changing security dynamics we face both domestically and internationally.”
The updated NSS aims to strengthen the Solomon Islands’ ability to respond to security challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. The government looks forward to the successful completion of the validation process and the implementation of the strategy in the coming months.
