Solomon Islands Netball Federation (SINFED) has announced that all provinces are being represented at the Netball Tournament except for Central and Makira who were not able to send a team due to costs of participation.
SINFED was assured by Makira that they will send a team to the Our Telekom National Netball Under 20 tournament in Lata in November.
SINFED has now finalised the officials for the tournament:-
The netball organising committee comprises SINFED Executive and HNA Executive Committee Members, including Nima Qalokale, Amalyn Kwanafia and Miriam Poloso, Janet Suri.
The umpires are: Martha Tolia, Margaret Talasasa, Doris Homelo, Wendy Pongotapu, Dr Joanna Daiwo, Ria Turanga
Scorers are: Alice Salebasi and Anna Palusi
Time Keepers are: Emily Malefoasi and Primrose Kaitu’u
SINFED meets with all officials on Thursday at 5pm.
Provincial teams for netball should now contact SINFED for details.
It is also important for all to know that since the 2nd Solomon Games, SINFED had always run the netball tournament in an Under 20 Category and teams must only consist of players from the provinces.
This is to be in keeping with SINFED’s objective of equal representation for teams when it comes to the Solomon Games.
No provincial team has been representing provinces in the netball tournament at the Solomon Games. All teams brought players that are developed in the provinces. This is good for the sport nationwide. SINFED, through Our Telekom has been going around the provinces organising national tournaments and that should be the best avenue by which provinces learn to administer and manage netball at the national level.
They should run leagues or satellite tournaments regularly. SINFED will embark on another provincial round in the second part of the year to run clinics for all provincial technical officials. This will coincide with the Solomon Games the Lata Tournament.
This year’s Solomon Games is crucial for SINFED as we will scout out potential under 17s for the Pacific Games 2023 and other 20s that can join the Training Squad for the Vanuatu and Tonga Games.
