PRESIDENT of the New Caledonia Congress Roch Wamytan this week met with Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The two leaders discussed potential trade relations between New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
Both leaders acknowledged the trade agreements within the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) framework.
The two leaders also discussed setting up a framework for exchange of different skills between the three countries and calls for the framework to be in the spirit of Melanesia.
In welcoming President Wamytan, Prime Minister Sogavare acknowledged that New Caledonia and Solomon Islands share common interests in the region including the support for human rights.
Prime Minister Sogavare further reiterated MSG’s call for the United Nations to send a human rights commission to assess human rights situation in West Papua and acknowledged Indonesia’s initiative to invite United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC).
President Wamytan is in the country to hold discussions with the Speaker of National Parliament Patteson Oti for a potential partnership between the Solomon Islands National Parliament and the New Caledonia Congress.
