The newly appointed Commissioner of Correctional Services of Solomon Islands (CSSI) Gabriel Manelusi had made a brief visit to Gizo, Western Province last Monday.
During a brief visit to the provincial capital he met with Premier of the Western Province David Gina.
His tour is part of a familiarise visit since taking up the top position.
Mr.Manelusi during his courtesy call to visit to Premier Gina highlighted the work of Prison services as an important role in correcting persons who are being condemned and have served time in prison.
In his remarks Mr Manelusi congratulated Premier Gina in his job as leader of Western Province.
He said he was very happy that the Premier had shown support when he paid a brief visit to the Gizo Correctional Centre recently.
Premier Gina in his brief remarks welcomed the new Correctional Commissioner.
He said he fully understood the role and function of Correctional Services.
He said his recent visit to the Malakerava Correctional Centre in Gizo allows him to see what that needs to be done for purposes of upgrading of the compound and expansion.
He assured the Prison boss that the Western Provincial Government will always be at hand to give support to any expansion program which might happen in future.
In a brief remark the Provincial Secretary Jeffrey Wickham also told the visiting delegation that Munda and Noro are growing urban centres and the Province is just as ready to make further discussions on the possibility of having new Correctional Services to be opened in this two townships given the fact they are fast growing centres in the Western Province.
He said the Western Province Government is ready to assist as well as to facilitate what is going to be done as far as expanding Correctional Services is concern.
He concluded that he was happy the new Boss is trying to bring about changes.
