Visitors and returning residents arriving at the Honiara International Airport are now being treated to local music entertainment.
Solomon Island Visitors Bureau (SIVB) has contracted several local bands to provide entertainment at the arrival lounge each day.
SIVB board chairman Wilson Ne’e said the idea was to make visitors feel welcome as they get off the plane and enter the arrival lounge.
“We felt it would be good if visitors arriving at the airport have a feel of local music while at the same time get a bit of entertainment,” Ne’e said.
He said previously, visitors arriving felt bored and sleepy as they entered the terminal.
“Since the live band entertainment started, the visitors felt good and really enjoyed the music as they stand in the immigration queue and waited to pick up their bags.
“This is one way of welcoming our visitors and making them feel at home.”
One of the bands engaged is Cool Breeze.
Its manager and popular musician Ali Baba said they felt proud to stand there and provide the visitors a bit of entertainment.
“From my observation, the visitors truly enjoyed our local music,” Baba said.
“The initiative also gave us the opportunity to promote our music to those outside the country,” he said.
