THE new government has to put its priorities right when it comes into power in a couple of week’s time.
One of the country’s top scholars Dr Tarcisius Tara Kabutaulaka made the statement last week in an interview with SIBC.
Dr Kabutaulaka said there are a number of priorities that a new government has to take seriously when it comes into power.
He said services like health, education and so forth are so important for the government to ensure these services are provided efficiently and with quality as desired by the people.
However he said it was very unfortunate that for the past decade that the country’s politics has been influenced a lot by the RCDF politics.
“I think we should shift away and look at developments not in an adhoc basis like what RCDF did to us but in a much longer term. We can look at what are some of the alternative futures that Solomon Islands want and how to achieve those alternative futures,”Dr Tabukaulaka said.
He stressed that the government needs to look at development processes that provides access to development opportunities for the people like access to services like health, education and so forth.
Dr Kabutaulaka highlighted that as a person who can assists Solomon Islands students studying at the University of the South Pacific (USP), the quality of the work of these students reflects the quality of their education.
“If the quality of the work of these students reflects the quality of education in our country, then I would say our education system is in a big problem and must be addressed seriously,”Dr Kabutaulaka stressed.
