THE Solomon Islands national teachers Association (SINTA) has a new general secretary (GS) and he is Robert Lafisi.
Mr Lafisi from Fera’abu in East Kwara’ae Malaita province Wednesday signed his four years contract with the organization.
The ceremony was hosted at the Rock Haven Inn and was attended by SINTA officials and Ministry of Education.
In a speech to welcome the new GS, acting President Philip Ika said, that his executive is very happy with his appointment.
“The office was without GS for more than three months and has weakened the work of SINTA in the country,” Mr Ika said.
He added that the SINTA has represented more than 4000 teachers in the country.
“On this, we are really grateful to have you taking up the post for the next four years,” Mr Ika said.
He added that his executive is looking forward to working together with him to shoulder the issues affecting the teachers.
“There are lots for issue to deal with that affects the lives of teachers in the country.
“Some issues are teachers housing allowance and the list goes on that needs someone like you to tackle the huge lot.
“Thank you for your interest and look forward for better achievement for SINTA in the country.”
Mr Lafisi said that he is more willing to take up the office to shoulder those issues.
“I want to confirm you that from now on, we will be working greater things for the teachers in the country through work together amongst us,” Mr Lafisi revealed.
“Let us unite together and work to address the issues of teachers within the country, he added.
Mr Lafisi was a principal of Aligegeo provincial secondary school in Auki Malaita province before taking up the post this year.
The post was left vacant after the former GS Samson Faisi resigned last year to contest the general election.
