Tourists who will visit Puapuma village at Bugotu District in Isabel province will no longer be facing accommodation difficulties.
This was made possible through the ministry of culture and tourism (MCT) which funded the project last year.
On Saturday the minister for culture and courism Samuel Manetoali together with the Solomon Islands visitors bureau (SIVB) officials commissioned the new home stay which was witnessed by more than 100 people of Puapuma.
The new home stay featured three bedrooms, an open varenda and toilets facilities.
Addressing the Puapuma community the tourism minister encouraged the community to look after the facility.
He said the opening of the facility will now bring additional income for communities and importantly provided employment for everybody.
“This home stay will bring income to you by selling of your agricultural products and crafts to visitors who are coming here to stay in this village,” Mr Manetoali said.
He urged the community to maintain cleanliness in the village.
“I’m happy to be here to witness this important occasion. Please maintain cleanliness in this village.”
Lucy Sagede, the SITAPUNA association chairlady thanked the ministry for the funding which brings changes to the community at the same time would provide income for the people.
“On behalf of our community here we would like to thank the ministry for funding this project which would really help boost our community.”
She added the community would continue to work closely with the government for more support in the future.
