A NEW mining company known as World Link has landed its equipment in West Rennell, Renbell province.
This was confirmed to the Solomon Star by West Rennell landowners at the port of entry in Lughughi.
The report stated that about 22 excavators and 15 dump trucks owned by World Link mining company were off-loaded on Monday 30th of November.
In a mobile conversation they told the paper these machines where shipped from overseas. Therefore customs officers were flown over to Rennell to conduct clearance over two days.
The Solomon Star understood that Asia Pacific Investment Development (APID) is the only mining company legally operating in the Polynesian province, but was recently issued a court order after it went to High Court with the province, thus entry of World Link is more interesting.
When contacted yesterday Customs and Comptroller Division of the Ministry of Finance & Treasury confirmed that two of their officers were sent to Rennell and they just arrived back yesterday.
Officer said the two of their staff went purposely to make clearance on machines owned by World Link mining company, which came directly from overseas to Lughughi in West Rennell.
Attempts to get the premier fpr comment yesterday were unsuccessful while his provincial secretary (PS) refused to make comments.
