THE Malaita Province Education Authority has appointed a new Principal Education Officer (PEO) for the province’s central region.
He is Timmy Afia who hails from Malaita Province.
Mr Afia’s appointment came almost three years after the post was vacant.
As the PEO for the central region, Mr Afia is responsible to deal with issues of teachers and schools within the region.
Mr Afia comes from a teaching background. He had served as a senior school teacher and later as principal in a number of schools in Malaita.
Prior to that, he worked as Professional Development Facilitator for Cognition Education, supporting schools and communities in Malaita. Cognition Education is an education consultation team that supports the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) to design and implement a nationwide programme to support the professional development of teachers.
Besides his service in the education sector, Mr Afia is also well-known for his involvement in football in the province.
The Malaita Province Education Authority considered his vast work experience in the education sector and football involvement as profound to qualify him for the Central Region PEO role.
Mr Afia has confirmed that he has taken up his new post.
