THE country’s newly elected Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has wished his unsuccessful rival in the Prime Minister’s post race, Matthew Wale well in carrying out his check-and-balance role.
Prime Minister Manele conveyed his well-wishes to Wale in his inaugural speech after being declared the winner of yesterday’s prime ministerial election by the Governor General Sir David Vunaghi.
The Prime Minister’s election was held inside the National Parliament Chamber at Vavaya Ridge Central Honiara yesterday morning.
Prime Minister Manele received 31 votes, while Mathew Wale won 18 votes.
“I also acknowledge the other candidate for Prime Minister, Hon Mathew Wale and the other coalition group. I trust that as the alternative government, he will be vigilant in providing the check and balance to the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT).
“While we maybe on opposing sides, we all have one ultimate purpose that is to serve our people and country. May God grant you wisdom in the discharge of your duty to our people,” he said.
Prime Minister Manele also thanked all eligible voters who voted their MPs during the Wednesday 17th Joint Election and 31 of these MPs have elected him as the new Prime Minister for 12th Parliament.
