The Minister of Finance and Treasury, Snyder Rini has approved new levy of rates and dues for the Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA).
The new levy of rates and dues applies for the Honiara Port and that of the Noro Port in the Western Province and became into force on March 30th, 2015, the date a Government Gazette on the approval of the new ports charges was released.
Mr Rini approved the levy of rates and dues under the Ports Act, Cap.161 and is read with section 11 of the State Owned Enterprises Act 2007.
The new levy of rates and dues revokes that of levy of rates and dues Rules 2010 (Legal Notice No.4 of 2011).
Solomon Islands Gazette No.17 stipulates the rates and dues must be paid to the Solomon Islands Ports Authority whether the goods are delivered at the Honiara Port or at the Noro Port.
Under the new Ports charges, ships berthing at the Point Cruz are now charged at Gross Cargo Tonnages and not according to their lengths.
