THE manager of Adaliua Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) demonstration farm, Samson Hsu has encouraged planting the Kumara by applying the row-mounting method.
This method was introducing to improve traditional ways of farming local sweet potato.
During a visit to Adaliua TTM last Wednesday, Mr Hsu displayed the product samples of row-mounting method.
He explain that making row-mounts are better because it will allow potato fruits to grow freely and bigger compared to traditional way of making single-mount.
“If farmers in Malaita can practice this way of farming the sweet potato, it should be better because it will produce more potato fruits,” Mr Hsu said.
Following the harvesting, Potatoes sample at Adaliua TTM demonstration farm were supplied to Aligegeo Province secondary school kitchen.
This is purposely for the student’s meal.
Meanwhile, Mr Hsu encourages students and teachers of Aligegeo to visit his farm and learn ideas to improve local ways of traditional waysof farming in Malaita.
The TTM potato harvest has surprised many students at Aligegeo who witnessed the handing over of the 212 kilogram of the potatoes.
Aligegeo provincial secondary school and Kilu’ufi hospital are the two societies that normally receive food crop supplies from Adaliua TTM farm in Malaita.
