THE Government through the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS) will formally announce the new Provincial Secretary (PS) for the Western Province based on a recommendation from the new provincial executive.
That’s according to the MPGIS Media Unit in an interview with the paper yesterday after two candidates have been interviewed.
Since the former PS Jeffery Wickham retired from the position in September last year and the dissolution of the Western Provincial Assembly from June to December, Patrick Toiraena had been tasked to take charge of the provincial administration to run its affairs and services.
Mr Wickham has been elected as a Member of the Provincial Assembly for ward 16.
The statement from MPGIS said, two candidates have been interviewed including current PS Acting, Patrick Toiraena.
“Results are coming out soon,” the officer said.
But this also depends on the final outcome of consultations with Western Provincial Executive, added the statement.
However, theres a high chance for Mr Toiraena to get the top job as he is capable and is currently in the position, acting, sources said, given his experience and the length of time he spent in the province.
In any provincial government administration, the provincial secretary normally oversees the implementation of Government regulations and other Cabinet decisions by mainstreaming them in the recurrent and capital development budgets of MPGIS and the nine provinces.
The PS also acted as a province’s registrar-general and was responsible for formal documents and records such as licences, birth and death certificates, land registries and surveys, business registrations and writs.
