MORE than 40 participants of reproductive health workers, teachers and non government organisations (NGOs) yesterday discussed new strategy for evacuation centres.
The new plan is to collaborate with education and other NGOs to implement the new strategy for evacuation camps.
Ministry of health medical service gender base violence coordinator Nashley Vozoto said it is their failure to work as team to conduct awareness programs on gender based violence in evacuation centres.
“We should be responsible for essential protections, medical care, psychosocial, medicine and conducting awareness programs in centres and communities”.
Mr Vozoto added previously only Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association (SIPPA) has played an active role in evacuation centres through conducting awareness programs on RH issues, HIV and STI.
He said it is an important role for reproductive health programs to be conducted at evacuation centres during disaster crisis.
“Not only that but to educate children in the camps with learning materials.”
Meanwhile he calls on reproductive health coordinators, education and other NGOs to cooperate and prepare well before any disaster strikes.
