A NEW taekwondo club has been established in Tulagi, Central provincial capital.
This is part of the Solomon Islands Taekwondo Union (SITU) development program to reach out to the provincial centres.
SITU president Philip Afu in an interview with Star Sports yesterday confirmed the new set up.
“Central provincial capital Tulagi now has a new taekwondo club which was established by SITU under its development programme last week.
“I want to confirm that this new taekwondo club is based in Tulagi”, he said.
He explained the purpose of setting up the club is to develop the sport in the province and also to keep young people busy with sports, adding martial arts is a very discipline sports which young people should be involved in.
He encourages young people in the Central Islands who have nothing to do to join the club to build their martial arts knowledge and courage.
He said as the current president of SITU, he wants to see taekwondo developed in the country through rightful channels.
“As a host country for the 2023 Pacific Games, taekwondo must be prepared early.”
He highlighted SITU will make sure that the sport lives up to its expectation when the country host the big games in 2023.
