NEWLY formed Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Taekwondo club has kicked off its first training session on Tuesday with a huge turnout from students.
More than 40 SINU students’ of both male and female showed up for the first training run which was held at the SINU agriculture school at Kukum Campus.
According to John Alick the only recognized 2nd Dan taekwondo holder in the country who was also present at the opening of the first SINU Taekwondo class said the turn out was a very encouraging sign for the new taekwondo club.
He said this is the very first time for Solomon Islands Taekwondo Union (SITU) to establish a taekwondo club at a tertiary institution like SINU.
“The session on Tuesday at SINU is a history in making for both SINU and SITU.”
Mr. Alick said SINU taekwondo club is a potential club with lots of potential students that could represent their various provinces in the upcoming Solomon Games that will be held on the month of July this year in Honiara.
He said the instructors will try their best to prepare the students and identify potential fighters from the club before the Solomon Games to take part in the Games.
Classes will continue today Thursday and interested SINU students are encourage to join the SINU Taekwondo Club.
