SOLOMON Islands’ High Commissioner to Malaysia, Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to the International Planned Parenthood Federation East & South East Asia and Oceania (IPPF ESEAOR) Regional Office.
Victor Samuel Ngele was received by IPPF ESEAOR Regional Director, Nora Murat.
The meeting was to enhance the existing cooperative effort, understanding and assistance received between the Solomon Islands government and IPPF.
Mr Ngele lauded IPPF ESEAOR for its good work in the Asia-Pacific region and commended its important task of helping the people in the Solomon Islands in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
In March 2014, the government of Solomon Islands had agreed to cooperate with IPPF to advance the work on SRHR across its provinces.
At the meeting, IPPF Director General, TewodrosMelesse, and Acting Prime Minister, Manasseh Maelanga, had brokered a partnership which would see the Federation designated as an executing agency on behalf of the Government of the Solomon Islands to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people across the provinces.
IPPF ESEAOR’s Member Association, the Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association, would work closely with its government to convene meeting across provinces with national ministries, non-governmental and faith-based groups and medical associations to advise and prepare a budgeted action plan to help realise SRHR for all by 2020.
Mr Ngele reaffirms the Solomon Islands government commitments to SRHR and its intention to strengthen the existing partnership with IPPF.
