Solomon Islands Government sponsored students studying in the Philippines are calling on the government through the Ministry of Education to disburse their allowances as soon as possible.
Disgruntled students in an email to the Solomon Star, said that they have not received their allowance since early June.
“It is really difficult for us here, as we depend solely on our allowances for our rental, food, text books, etc,” one student who wish to remain anonymous said.
“At the moment we are calling our family back home to send money through Western Union to support ourselves,” he said.
“There are days where some students go without food.”
The students called on responsible authorities to quickly sort out their allowances.
Almost 200 of both SIG and private funded students are doing their studies in the Philippines.
Attempts to get comments from the Ministry of Education last night were unsuccessful.
