There were no external injuries or injuries that would cause death found on the body of the dead man found floating in the Mataniko River, Central Honiara.
Police Commissioner Matthew Varley revealed this to journalists at his weekly conference, Thursday.
“At this point in time the examination of his body found no external injuries and no apparent injuries that would cause his death,” Mr Varley said.
He said they are now examining his history and medical history with his family to identify if there are any other medical conditions that may have contributed to his untimely death.
He stressed that the investigation is open and ongoing.
“Our forensic team and our CID officers are continuing their investigations into the matter.
“We will keep the public updated as this goes forward.”
He thanked community members who reported this sad incident to the police.
Mr Varley also thanked police officers who had the terrible task of recovering this man from the river in very difficult circumstances.
“It is a testament of the skill of our officers of their training that they are able to do this in a very professional and sensitive way.”
“We are examining all of the circumstances around his death.
“We are still establishing his original province and we are working with relatives to come and confirm his identity.
Mr Varley said they know who the deceased is but will not announce his name out of respect for his family and the ongoing work police are doing.
The body of the deceased believed to be in his 30’s was found floating in the Mataniko River just before 3pm on Wednesday.
Two women spotted the body floating near the river banks close to the Mataniko clinic and reported it to the Chinatown police post.
