MALAITA Province has been hit hard by lack of shipping services to the province for the past two weeks causing hiccups for the travelling public and businesses.
Leading up to the protest in Honiara last week, shipping services to the Provincial capital of Auki has been unreliable.
Travelling passengers to Honiara turned up at Auki wharf only to be told that there were no ships to provide shipping services between Auki and Honiara.
The only ship that managed to operate is Pelican Express which made its last trip last Wednesday morning.
Since then no ships were operating the Honiara-Auki route, which means travelling passengers to Honiara went back to their homes or took shelter with their relatives in Auki waiting for the next possible ship to transport them to Honiara.
This paper was told that shipping services to Auki will resume this week.
The lack of shipping services to Auki has continued to frustrate the travelling public and business operators in the Malaita Province.
