RESIDENTS of Noro in the Western Province known for its natural environmental beauty, are concerned about the state of the township’s dumpsite which is threatening its grandeur.
Residents say Noro is no longer the breathtaking scenic township it used to be as the first thing visitors see upon arrival is an extensive unkempt rubbish dump.
They expressed disgust at the dishevelled state of the dumpsite which is located close to the main road, labelling it as an eyesore for visitors and residents alike.
One concerned resident who wished to be only called James Naia spoke to Solomon Star about the matter.
“It’s disheartening to see such a beautiful place tarnished by a rubbish dump.”
He urged the Western Provincial Government (WPG) to find an alternative dumpsite promptly in collaboration with the Noro Town Council.
“Please WPG, this issue needs to be dealt with urgently. Liaise with the Noro Town Council to find an alternative dumpsite.”
Other Noro residents are calling on all shop owners, other businesses and companies, offices, and residents within the township who use the dumpsite to play their part in ensuring their rubbish is properly disposed.
“To all shop owners whether Chinese or locally owned, all other businesses and companies, offices and all residents within Noro Town who use the dumpsite, please make all efforts to properly dispose your rubbish to ensure the beauty of our township,” one of the residents said.
Another resident said she is hopeful that the Noro Town Council, Western Provincial Government and stakeholders will take necessary steps to address this issue promptly.
