The Noro water source has turned salty due to the effects of recent king tides.
This has raised concern and frustration among Noro residence who rely on the water source.
Report reaching this paper this week says that Noro residents are experiencing their water supply has been contaminated with salt water for almost 3 weeks.
A Noro resident, Hillary Lawrence posted online images concerning the main water source at the Ziata river source is currently mixed with saltwater due to the effects of the king tide recently.
Hillary told Solomon Star that water becomes too salty and members of the Noro community are experiencing similar salt taste and brackish like taste from the piped water
‘’This is not getting even better, it’s been 3 weeks since we did not have access to good and fresh water supplied by Solomon Water,’’ he said.
‘’It was also observed that the water was dirty with mud and I think it is not safe at all to drink or use it anyway,’’ he adds
Mr. Lawrence added ‘’the public would like to know if there are plans in place to install appropriate distilling and filtering machines to address these issues.
Other Noro residents also said that another alternative way to avoid water source getting mixed with the saltwater is to move the water dam source to another location that is far from the previous site.
‘’Honestly, this is ridiculous; the water supply tastes so salty whilst we are out here paying water bills to the Solomon Water.
‘’This is just injustice whether we blame it on nature or the Solomon Water or whoever, the only thing we need at the moment is for Solomon Water to fix the issue as it will have a long-term effect on the salty water into water taps,’’ one of the Noro residents said.
