THE people of Baegu-Asifola and Lau-Mbaelelea are now free to travel the North Road following the removal of the roadblock in Loina village, North Malaita.
For the past three weeks, people of the two constituencies were denied access to the provincial capital, Auki, following the death of late Aba from Loina whose body was found along the Sasafa River at the border between Baegu-Asifola and Lau-Mbaelelea.
Late Aba was attending the funeral of his father-in-law at Uniai village in Baegu-Asifola when he went missing and was later discovered dead along the Sasafa River.
Speaking to Solomon Star Auki this morning, the Malaita Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Leslie Kili, confirmed the removal of the roadblock.
PPC Kili said the roadblock was removed following the compensation payment and reconciliation ceremony held in Auki this week to iron out differences between the people of the three constituencies.
With that, PPC Kili thanked the relatives of the deceased for removing the roadblock.
He added that now that the cultural part of the issue has been resolved, it is up to police to investigate the murder case and bring those responsible to face the full force of the law.
PPC Kili also encouraged people of Baegu-Asifola and Lau-Mbaelelea to travel without fear and at the same time called for greater respect amongst the people of the three constituencies.
