Fatal ‘traffic case’ at the Supreme Casino in Honiara is now a ‘criminal case’ according to police, investigation underway
POLICE are now treating the fatal ‘traffic case’ that claimed the life of a girl at the Supreme Casino in Central Honiara as a criminal case and the matter is now investigated by crime investigators at the Central Police Station.
The Supervising Director of the National Traffic Department Sergeant Measly Kelo was quoted by a Media Statement issued by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Media Unit yesterday stating that, “the fatal accident at the Supreme Casino on 1 January 2024 is no longer a traffic case but a criminal one which is currently investigated by crime investigators at the Central Police Station.”
He made no further comments about the matter, except to say it was one of the eight traffic cases police recorded during its 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year Operation.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Kelo told Radio New Zealand International last week that according to the initial report on the matter at around 3-5am, a ‘car’ drove through the gate and made a turn and went straight towards a group of girls.
He said right after the incident, the driver reversed the vehicle and escaped out of the Supreme Casino area.
Segeant Kelo said the driver was arrested and will appear in the Honiara Central Magistrate Court on a later date.
Contrary to what Sergeant Kelo said about the type of vehicle that hit the girl, eyewitnesses said it was a ‘land cruiser.’
