NUMBU Community High School (CHS) in Northeast Guadalcanal is one of the schools in the province earmarked by the Education Division to introduce Form 6 soon.
Thats according to the Guadalcanal Provincial Government Minister for Education, John Botsi. He could not confirm whether in 2025 or the following year.
Minister Botsi announced this at the handover ceremony of a new classroom for the school on Friday.
The classroom building was funded by the government of Japan.
He said the new classroom facility will see the expansion of Numbu CHS into the senior secondary education level, enhancing conducive teaching and learning.
Minister Botsi said, such standard classroom project is one critical factor that will significantly influence the academic performance of students.
He emphasised that one of the Guadalcanal Provincial Government’s key policy objectives under its education sector is to support the national government through the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) in implementing its new Education Act 2023 in all schools across Guadalcanal Province.
Thus, Minister Botsi added that the Guadalcanal Provincial Government is obliged to fully support the delivery of education services in the province.
“As you are all fully aware, one of MEHRD’s goals is to provide access for children to schools. Access to education is one of the important components of the three key pillars of education.
“Under this key pillar of education, access to school infrastructures is the major component. Hence, under our provincial education strategic plan, improving school infrastructures is amongst our goals,” he added,
Minister Botsi stressed that as required, schools in Guadalcanal Province need to have adequate and conducive classrooms for learning.
“Infrastructures in our schools is one of the most expensive components in improving education in our province.
“All sectors, inclusive of ECE (Early Childhood Education), Primary, Secondary and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) have a very high need in terms of infrastructures, including new and improved classrooms, student dormitories, special rooms like science labs, Home Economics rooms, Technology rooms, Agriculture rooms, Library, administration blocks, water sanitation, staff housing, dispensary in boarding schools, sick bays, ICT and other forms of infrastructure,” he said.
Minister Botsi congratulated the Numbu CHS and its Board of Management for the memorable gift of the new classroom received from one of the country’s key and valuable partners – the Japanese Government.
He expressed appreciation to the government of Japan for its support to improve school infrastructures.
Minister Botsi said this is a clear reflection of supporting the delivery of better and quality educations.
