A MALE nurse in charge of Sikaiana clinic in Malaita Outer Island (MOI) was left with serious injuries and wounds after being attacked by a villager.
The incident occurred early last week at the clinic compound following an argument between the suspect and the local nurse.
This had led to the brutal attack leaving the nurse in serious condition, it was revealed.
The assailant who is a suspect from a nearby village reportedly under the influence of alcohol, assaulted the nurse, causing significant physical harm to the nurse’s body, face and legs.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, prompting concern amongst Sikaiana island communities on health care as he is the only nurse providing service on the island.

A resident on the island who wishes to remain anonymous told the Solomon Star from the island that the consequences of this violent incident has forced the clinic to suspend all services with the nurse only attending to critical cases.
“This is a serious incident that happened here in Sikaiana where the nurse in charge was attacked and left with serious injuries and wounds.
“This incident had painted a bad picture on the Sikaiana community,” the resident told the paper via a phone interview.
To make it worse there was no police presence on the island who can restore peace, maintain law and order, it was revealed.
Police presence on the island is important so they can bring justice to people who are involve in such unlawful attitude, the islander said.
The source added, the situation remains tense as no peace and reconciliation was conducted.
“If there is no reconciliation between these two parties there will be serious health problem here on the Island.
“And the issue would go out of hand which will result in more threats between the parties involved.”
The islanders are appealing to police to quickly intervene to sort out the mess and help resolve it.
Although the victim is slowly recovering from his injuries, the clinic is more likely to close down its service if there is no reconciliation taking place.
“The victim is still waiting for the suspect’s side to come and resolve the issue.
“Failure to do so will result in the nurse returning to Honiara leaving the clinic to close indefinitely,” the resident said with deep concern.
