PM Sogavare moves to reshuffle some of his cabinet ministers in a move to restore DCGA’s stability ahead of PG23 and the 2024 NGE
A MAJOR reshuffle involving at least three senior Cabinet Ministers is imminent, according to insiders.
The aim, it is understood, is to restore stability in government as the country prepares for hosting two major events one after the other – the $1 billion 2023 Pacific Games in November/December as well as the National General Elections being held in April next year.
It is also understood that the DCGA government has come under increasing internal political strain, which has the potential to break up the coalition if it is not dealt with promptly.
“The Prime Minister is fully aware of what is going on and is taking action to ensure the DCGA coalition remains united in hosting the Games as well as in going into the election next year.
“He (the Prime Minister) seems to have made up his mind as to what to do and who will go in terms of the proposed reshuffle. Some may not like what will happen but the Prime Minister considers the interest of the nation and stability of the government paramount,” one source said.
As to the timing of the reshuffle, the source said it could be anytime from now.
“It could very well be this week,” the source said.
Solomon Star understands that the Ministries being affected are – the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Immigration and Labour, the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification and the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs, formerly the Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace.
The Minister of Commerce, Industries, Immigration and Labour is Fredrick Koloqeto, the Minister of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification is Bradley Tovosia and the Minister for Traditional Governance and Ecclesiastical Affairs is Samuel Manetoali.
