MINISTER for Education and Member for Gizo/Kolombangara Honorable Lanelle Olandrea Tanangada says opening of schools will be recommended on a phased approach.
She was speaking in parliament on Tuesday this week.
“As we have announced previously, we will recommend a phased approach in the opening of schools.
“This means schools that have met the precondition targets and checklist will be allowed to open, and schools that have not met the precondition targets and checklist will be supported to enable them to meet the requirements,” she said.
“Thus, Mr. Speaker I humbly call on all education authorizes, school principals and your good administration to ensure that your schools meet the minimum requirement set, which one of them is to get yourselves vaccinated.
“Further to that, teachers should be in your schools to ensure that you prepare the learning environment for our soon opening of the schools,” she said.
“We are currently experiencing the second wave of the COVID-19 community transmission.
“This has to some extent affected our plans to opening of schools.
“Despite this, we are working very hard to ensure that we continue our preparations for the opening of schools,” she said.
The report on the assessment of Honiara schools in terms of their preparedness and readiness for the opening of schools should be ready to be presented to the COVID-19 Oversight Committee.
The assessment on the Guadalcanal schools and schools in other provinces is continuing.
