The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD), will be assisting personnel’s from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom, following a request from the Government of Solomon Islands to these countries, to dispose World War II ordinances and abandoned war relics from our provinces.
It will be a month long operation.
The team of experts to this operation will be in Honiara from this week to 10 October 2016 and they will focus on the areas around Honiara, Tulaghi and Yandina.
Police are seeking local support and cooperation to locate WWII ordnances, which continues to pose great danger to communities throughout the Solomon Islands.
The members of the public who have seen and stumble across these war relics in land and sea are urged to identify them and these ordinances includes; grenades, mortars, artillery, shells and aircraft bombs to pass on any relevant information to the police as soon as possible, as EOD police personals and experts will rally these war relics on a disposal site for safety destruction.
The general public particularly those that experience danger of these WWII ordinances must support the safe removing of these post danger items, that locals and children would enjoy the environment.
