A HONIARA resident, Errol Maki has urged the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) to stop accusing the Opposition Leader for telling the truth to the nation in the media.
This came following a statement issued by the OPMC, saying Matthew Wale needs self-reflection before speaking against the government on the proposed deferment of the national general election from 2023 to 2024.
Mr Maki said in summary, how the OPMC responded to the Opposition Leader in the statement was like he is out of his mind and is someone that is lying to this nation through the media.
“In fact, he is telling the truth. Obviously, that is what members of the public know.
“And those of us who did not support the extension of parliament or deferment, we feel that the attack on Mr Wale was like an attack on us.
“The OPMC wrongfully thought that this was the Opposition Leader’s propaganda for political point scoring, when in actual fact, what he was saying is the public’s view,” he stated.
Mr Maki went on to say that this move by the OPMC is like an indirect attack to the general public, in which more that 80 percent of the population did not support the deferment of the national general election.
The Honiara resident said he would be surprised if the report on the feedback from the MPs’ constituency awareness stated that most people are supporting the deferment and they understand the reasons behind the proposed plan.
“This is not true. People have already understood that this is foolishness and insane.
“People will understand that this is the final year of making money ahead of a new election. That is how people are understanding the issue,” said Mr Maki.
He added, the OPMC must look at this issue as a public issue.
“This is not an issue between the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA) and the Opposition,” he said.
