LEADER of the Opposition Mathew Wale is disappointed with the size of the new Henderson International Terminal Building funded by the Japanese government.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Wale said when he first heard about the new terminal building, he thought it would be quite the size of the Nadi terminal building, but this is not.
“The new terminal is too small. Are we missing out on design?” Mr Wale asked.
Minister for Communication and Aviation Peter Shanel Agovaka also concurred with Wale regarding the size of the new terminal.
However, as stated by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare last year, it said the completion of the project will enable Solomon Islands to accommodate more flights with greater efficiency and safety.
He said the $340 million Japanese Government funded project will add tremendous value to the economy.
The project is scheduled to be completed by 2023, just in time to cater for the anticipated increased demand of people arriving in July 2023, when Solomon Islands host the 2023 Pacific Games.
The completion of this international terminal project will coincide with the completion of another major infrastructure project funded and built by the Government of Japan, the second phase of the Kukum highway project.
